CHEESE, cheese and more cheese saw food fans enjoy a festival feta than all the rest in a first event of its kind to be staged in the Peterborough area.

Cheese Fest – the UK’s first contemporary cheese festival has been touring the country and brought together artisan cheese makers and award-winning vendors from around the world to the East of England Arena and Events Centre.

Around 5,000 cheese fans attended the two-day event, with the chance to taste around 140 different cheeses – as well as enjoy cooking demonstrations by actor turned award winning artisan cheese maker, Sean Wilson (pictured).

Sean, well known for playing Martin Platt in Coronation Street, left the Soap in 2005 and decided to fulfil his lifelong passion of cooking and went on to spend a year training as a chef, working at a number of Michelin starred restaurants including, Northcote Manor at Langho near Blackburn.

In 2009 Sean started a new venture, “The Saddleworth Cheese Company” with best friend of 30 years Mark Revell – and delighted Cheese Fest goers by manning his stall and staging a series of entertaining demonstrations throughout the weekend.

Dean Rees, business development manager at EEAEC said: “We were absolutely delighted to bring this fantastic event to the venue, and the attendance during the weekend certainly proved that there is an appetite for this kind of event in Peterborough – which follows on from the first Cambridgeshire Food & Drink Festival staged here during the summer.”
