Kids Country Food & Farming Day
Kids Country Food & Farming Day is an interactive learning event aiming to teach children where food comes from, and the importance of agriculture and the countryside. There will be over 100 interactive educators at the East of England Showground, who will educate 3,00- school children aged between 4 and 14.
On the day, children will get to make bread rolls, sausages, mackerel pâté, press rape seed, and have a go at making veg art in our Field to Farm area. We will be teaching rural skills such as dry stone walling and hedge laying in our Countryside skills area where children will also have a chance to explore our willow maze and learn about honeybees. Our cattle sheds will be full of livestock, and there will be displays of sheep shearing, ferret racing, falconry and lots more. We will showcase a fantastic display of farm machinery while a commentator explains the work and inputs engaged in achieving particular food products.
“The children learnt so much as there were so many learning opportunities. As an urban town centre school, the opportunity to experience this has had a significant impact. Children returned saying ‘this was the best trip ever.” All Saints CEVA Primary “A massive thank you for the brilliant organisation and tremendous amount of sheer hard work and determination it takes to pull off such a grand event as Kids Country Food and Farming Day.” Anglian Water, exhibitor.
